Homemade (by someone else) Baby Food!

Melissa, May 21, 2010

Alright, it may surprise you (unless you know me) that I didn’t make ALL my weaner’s food myself!  Some times there are just days when you are done, you are out of baby food, sleep, patience and ingredients and you just need a little help.  Often times you can get help without going straight to a traditional commercial baby food jar! I found our local baby food chef at our farmer’s market.  I think I purchased every last meal she had on her table! The name you ask? Baby Gourmet! Lifesaver.  So I am hoping to help you other super mamas who feel like taking a break from cooking in the kitchen to head on over to some lovely ladies that will just make it for you.  I have added as many links as I could find, if you have more please add to the comments section, we would love to help you save super mamas! P.S- I wish I could tell you I have tried them all but I have only purchased from Baby Gourmet. Recipe of the Week- Sweet Potatoes!

Melissa, May 17, 2010

Sweet Potatoes Puree (6+ Months, great 1st introduction food) Ingredients: 4  Sweet Potatoes 1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. 2. Wash and dry your sweet potatoes. 3. Poke about 8 holes in each sweet potato. 4. Wrap each sweet potato in tinfoil and place on the middle oven shelf.  Cook for 1 hour. 5. Once cooked allow the sweet potato’s to cool and then remove skin.(tip:  It’s easier to cut them in half and pull the skins off.  They still need to be a bit warm for this to work best. ) 6. Puree in a food processor or blender adding breast milk or water as needed. 7. Pour into Wean Cubes. Remember to check the temperature before serving. Store the leftovers in the fridge for 3 days or the freezer for 6 months. Yields Approximately: 3 cups (775ml)

No Cook Recipe-Banana!

Melissa, May 17, 2010

Banana Mush This one is really easy! Another great meal that does not need to be cooked or pureed! Ingredients: 1 banana 1. Peel banana 2. After you have peeled your banana place it in a bowl and mash with your fork. 3. Spoon into Wean Cubes. Banana alone does not store well after 2 days in the fridge. It is fine when with other ingredients. Yields Approximately: ½ cup (125ml)

Flavor of the Week-Zoobies

Melissa, May 17, 2010

This is a must have for every family that travels! The first time I flew with both weaners I was surprised to find out that they don’t offer complimentary blankets and pillows on West Jet flights anymore, you have to purchase them.  This made for an uncomfortable journey. I saw Zoobies before we left on our Christmas vacation and bought them for the weaners (from Bo Bebe in Calgary).  They are awesome!  Its a 3 in 1; stuffed animal, pillow, and blanket!  They are all super user friendly and even the 1 year old knew how to take out her blanket.  An added bonus of her blanket  is the fleecy corner she can snuggle into. The girls now keep them in the truck for all our travels.  There were tons of different animals and colors at the store and online: www.zoobies.com.  Enjoy!

Lets Bring Back… GLASS MILK JUGS!

Melissa, May 12, 2010

I love the idea of purchasing my organic milk in a re-usable glass milk jug! Why did they switch from glass to plastic? Lets do our part to bring this environmental idea back to life!!  The picture above is from a great American company, Shatto Milk Company.  They just get it! Check out this green is sexy blog post to read about why drinking out of plastic jugs is not sexy! Care to join my new movement? Start pestering your local grocer to bring it in! They can do anything 🙂 Here is where you can find some.  For my friendly neighbors check out mindfully.org’s list of Dairies Using Glass Bottles in US. You proud Canadians may have to search a little more!  I have contacted Dairy Farmers of Canada in hopes that they can help me in my search.  Do you know of some? Please send them my way! I promise a post will come soon with a Canadian list… until then…
